AZ CPCU 2020 Scholarship Award Winners!

The AZ CPCU Chapter scholarship awards five outstanding students $1,000 each to be used toward school expenses for the fall 2020 semester.

Students must carry at least a 2.5 GPA and they must be pursuing a degree with an interest in the insurance industry through a variety of insurance related degrees.

Special thanks to our Education Direct Diane Scheidt, CPCU, SCLA, AIC and board for discovering these bright future insurance industry rock stars!

Gina Gilkey, Arizona State University enrolled in the Actuarial program.   She is active in the Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter and is currently serving as a committee member.  She has participated in the annual science career fair, mock interview night and CAS case study competition.   She is also enrolled in the Barrett Honors College and has conducted her Honors Enrichment Contract on global health which ties in with her actuarial studies.  Gina has assisted with Humana’s Early ID actuarial internship program. She volunteers with several non-profit health organizations. She also plans to apply to the Master of Science program in actuarial science at ASU in the spring.   She is in her Junior year and has a 4.0 GPA.
 
Kinsey Turk, Arizona State University enrolled in the Actuarial program.   She is active in the Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter and is the current president.  She is also the Casualty Actuarial Society student ambassador.  She is serving as a mentor for younger students helping them with resumes and increased knowledge of the property casualty field.  She has interned with Nationwide Optumas Consulting over the summer and is enrolled in the Actuarial Science master 4+1 program.  She is in her Senior year and has a GPA of 3.88.
 
Lydia Garbic, Arizona State University enrolled in the Actuarial program.  She is active in the Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter and is serving in a leadership role.  She is currently interning at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.  She recently participated with the RAGRBAI, which involved traveling across Iowa starting at the Missouri River and ending at the Mississippi River, traveling 50 to 100 miles a day.  She is in her Senior year and has a GPA of 3.75.
 
Fernando Chavez, Arizona State University enrolled in the Actuarial Science Master’s program.  He is active in the Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter and is the current diversity and inclusion officer for the chapter.  He has interned with Nautilus Insurance and this summer will intern at New York Life to gain an insight into the life/health sector of actuarial science. He is currently a research assistant at the ACT lab at ASU.  He is in his second year and has a GPA of 3.47.
 
Jonathan Kiperman, Arizona State University enrolled in the Actuarial Science Master’s program.   He is active in the Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter and is the current treasurer.  He is also participated in the Mercer Case Study Competition and was the winner of the CAS Case Study Competition.  He has interned with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Nationwide E&S this summer, and Optumas Consulting.  He is in his first year and has a GPA of 3.53.
